Re: Sad News
We all knew what to expect - but not so soon. Ian although very weak - was unbelievably his usually chirpy self when we had a chat with him last weekend even when he told us that they could do no more for him - but it still comes as a dreadful shock. What a wonderful person - always so helpful and n...

Re: Do You remember This Boat
Hi John - nice to see Mistral is still afloat - but could do with a fair bit of TLC. I delivered to Whitecross Bay for the new owner in 2004 !! How time flies - looks as though it has spent the winter(s) afloat, which is crazy considering how easy it was to recover!! Thanks for the photo and hope Ja...

Re: Landslip
Well my comments didn't quite stir up a 'Hornets Nest' - which I think got swept away with the seawall - more a Hyena's Moon! We can see that developments a well in hand. Carry on the good work John - you have certainly developed a great Moorings cam now - pity there are no boats to see on it (apart...

Landslip
Looking at the webcams it appears that maybe the recent work on the sea wall has caused the field and the north side of the boatpark to slope down at 30%. If it gets any worse Pebbles could slip backwards into the river! Perhaps more work could cure the problem --- or maybe the camera could be rotat...

No wonder the popular name for sailors at GSC is LUNEatics - I think Big John has had this formulae for some time

Re: Moorings stream cam
New project sounds fantastic John - money (at least GSC's) couldn't buy this expertise. If its half as good as your expectations it will be an absolute gem for the deskbound sailors and more so for the actual racers. If the foundations of my efforts to place a video cam on the roof of the OD box are...

What a excellent bit of apparatus is Jon Wood's latest (Mk 10 ?!!) panning camera. Pity I don't have a boat on the moorings to watch these days, but am sure those who have much appreciate it. I believe the farmer on the far side of the Lune is using it to see his cows are OK. How about one for the s...

yes Brian I am sure this is the same a/c . I was on Fylde W A and it lay close to the stream coming down from down from Pilling and about 2/300yds from the edge of the marsh, which i n the midd 60's was expanding seawards.

Hi Brian - great to know a 'kindred spirit' - an old Morecambe bay Wildfowler! I have just been looking at some old photos on Overton Marsh and Cockerham - dated 1964 - 50 years ago, cant believe it! Take care when digging at GSC ! - unexploded ammo! Monday is the anniversary of an explosion during WW1 that destroyed an munitions factory at White-Lund and scattered ammunition up to several miles - which would have no doubt included the area of our moorings! Suggest anyone finding something susp...

A few tips for running onto the slip. Just a bit of confidence required - see video! http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=QYltdonj2iE on second thoughts we already have had some similar performances at GSC and isn't that like Mick Bull shouting instructions to the Skipper and m...

Re: Boat capsize
Good one to show our safety boat crews and the value of a rib - If they had been bashed against the hard hulled rescuing boat - or worse the engine!! Throwing a couple of lines and towing them into the slack water would have been safer and a lot quicker - but hindsight is a fine thing. Reminds me of...

Short video - mainly of Saturday's racing. See link below.
It will take some time to load if your pc is as slow as mine - and maybe jerky. If so you need like me a new computer.
Will also upload to our Vimeo site the much belated 2011 Summer Cruise

Stalok 8mm fitting
Surplus to my requirements when fitting new mast - a Stalok 8mm bottle screw with toggle fitting. code S22 - 588 The ridiculous cost of these is £110/120 or thereabouts. This is pristine/unused - looking for £60 for it. see below for details http://www.stalok.com/p-528-toggle-sta-lok.aspx Alan Round...

For video clips of 2008 Cruise to Port St Mary, Portaferry, Down Lightship, Quoile CC and home via the Solway put the vimeo address into address bar. It should be in the GSC Vimeo vids, but this seems a bit pearshaped at the moment! Alan

Hi Michael - as an old old tech rep of Borden Chemical co who made and sold epoxy and other boatbuilding resins I would confirm what Pete found. It is a characteristic that the curing time increases with age but when it eventually sets the bond is usually just as strong. Extra warmth will help - in ...

Piel mooring hazard
We moored to the seaward buoy of the two inside GSC moorings on Wed/Thurs last week returning from Anglesey. As requested by Norman the mooring was inspected, cleared of weed and looked OK. However on drying - a piece of steel was seen protruding from the sand/mud only a boats length to the shore si...

I spoke to Helen at the Dock Office today and all is OK for boats to use the dock on Friday/Sat. The Silver River is expected one one of the tides and obviously must be given priority to enter or leave the Dock.
