Alex Whiteside

I was extremely sad to learn Alex passed away recently. Alex was one of the first members to greet me when I joined Glasson Sailing Club, some thirty years ago.My first impressions of his open frienldliness, inspirational qualities and sportsmanship, together with the other members of the dinghy fle...

Re: YELLOW ALERT

Hi Mick, On my brief visit to the club this morning, I attempted a walk along the patio, to view the area around the jetty, suddenly, a huge gust---almost lifting me off my feet---propelled me back along the patio, just managing to grab a picnic table, still in place,as far as I'm aware! Decided hea...

Re: Racing Dinghies

It is my "intention" to continue an active part in dinghy racing, having now almost recovered from a rather nasty fall from my bike, some weeks ago.
Looking at the present weather forecast for the next few days, there should be plenty of water in the river !

Re: dinghy sailing Sat 13th Sept

Hi John,
Thank you for your kind response in your recent message.
A pleasant day, sadly no wind, so you didn't miss a great deal, I ended up taking a few shots, of the cruisers----with my
camera, of course !
I look forward to joining you on the water, any time soon.
See you soon, Ivan.

Re: Another Picnic on the Sands attempt?

Sorry guys,Survival on the sands is off.ESE 4-6 dictates the event is, without doubt, not a good idea. Although,, if any brave souls wish to continue with the plan, suggest they continue, crossing THE LUNE DEEPS, settling on MORT BANK ! The silence and solitude is even more intense------more a "...

Re: Another Picnic on the Sands attempt?

The forecast for Saturday's day out leads me to suggest it could result in a rather unpleasant picnic. Pilling sands can be a most unpleasant exposed place in cool easterly conditions, strengthening during the afternoon. Will review the forecast during the next 36 hours. Hope to have a more optimist...

Under water obstruction on slipway

May I draw your attention to the remnants of the recent winter storm damage. The large boulders remaining on the top of the slipway, create a hazardous obstruction when covered with water on high tides. On Saturday May 17, after a superb session of dinghy sailing around the vicinity of the lighthous...

Re: Picnic on the sands 10 May

HAMPERS AWAY ! YES, cancel your HARRODS hampers, the forecast is proving unkindly towards us (yet again) for this event, totally unsuitable, that is, assuming you are consumed with masochistic tendencies, and wish to bravely face the rain and predicted gusts throughout the day, within the Bay ! Sugg...

Hello John, Thanks for your rapid response. Having used the system myself a number of times, I don't have a problem remembering it.Very easy to operate. Please accept my apologies for the latter part of my recent picnic note. When I left school, long long ago I became a junior reporter for THE DAILY EXPRESS. Re: Picnic on the sands 10 May

I would like to emphasise,to any members thinking of participating in this very enjoyable event, it is NOT a race, never has been. The plan is to leave GSC after high water, just sail, or drift out, with the outgoing tide, nothing competitive about it. Having made this trip, mainly alone, on numerou...

Re: Spring Series Racing

Sadly, due to light winds and low cloud, only three dinghies sailed on Saturday, one on Sunday. It can only improve !
We did not race.

Oh ! Just a point-----has anyone any idea where the Race Starting manual is ? It's disappeared and was not in
evidence over the Easter period.
