Anyone changed the impella on one of these? How do you get to it?
Cheers
Marina 4 (Yamaha)
Hi Mick
I have a 4hp Yamaha and from memory on mine I undid the stainless bolts facing upwards under the skeg plate remove the rubber gromet from the side of the leg to loosen the gear rod linkage inside then carefully try to split the leg joint. On my engine this was easier said than done as the drive shaft splines were really stuck in the crankshaft but with carefully tapping (with a lump hammer and a piece of wood) using wedges in the increasing gap it finally came apart the housing on top of the gear casing contains the impellor. Re fitting is quite easy you just have to line up the drive shaft, water pick up and the gear change.
Hope this helps.
Pete

Pete, got the lower half joint freed but didn't unscrew that clamp through the side bung hole. Maybe that's why it didn't come right off. I chickened out and put it back. Now I've read your email again re the clamp in the bung hole.
This worried me a bit as there is not a lot of room to get to it if you drop it all inside. Did you just loosen it and it slides out?
Cheers
