Support to accompany rowers to Llandudno

Unread post by Michael »

Gents, I realise this is very short notice but the guys below are looking for someone to accompany them to Llandudno
trouble is they are wanting to set off from Roa tomorrow so it is very short notice but if anyone is up for it expenses
will be paid & with the wind forecast for tomorrow I would have thought it would be at least Sunday before they
could set off, if you know of anyone who would be up for it & can get the time off please let me know,
regards

Charity help

Haydn;
Roger Buttery and his nephew Mark mentioned to me last year that a charity rowing challenge will be taking place this summer. (see below the home page and website link). They are looking for charity support from organisations - they are not looking for financial support for the row itself. On recently talking to Mark Buttery the boat is planning to dock in Barrow and are hoping for Ian Botham to meet them, with all the attendant publicity, including interest being shown from TV and radio..
I don't know what charities Charity Challenge in BAE are proposing to help this year, but Mark Buttery is asking if BAE would consider donating to Leukaemia Research and show active support for the row, especially when docking in Barrow?
Maybe a good opportunity to have a BAE logo on the side of the boat, which I see is BAE red!

Regards
Dave

Manx Rowing Challenge

Alan Kneen with Fight & SpiritWelcome to The Manx Rowing Challenge Website.

In July 2007 I am planning to row with Mark Buttery to all of the countries surrounding the Isle of Man in the Irish Sea. The route will start in the Isle of Man and will take me to Southern Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, England and finally back to the Isle of Man - a total of 360 miles. It is expected that this will take approximately 7-10 days - weather permitting!

The purpose of the two-man row is to raise funds for the Leukaemia Research Fund in memory of my father who fought this disease for 14 years and also to provide funds for the Scott Sanders MemoriaL Fund which supports the Patients Comfort Fund for Ward 7Y - the haematology unit, at Liverpool Royal Hospital where Manx Cancer and Leukemia patients are treated. We are also raising funds for the LISA Fund which provides funds and support for Leukaemia patients families.

Such a task cannot be taken in an ordinary rowing boat, both Mark and I have invested many hours of work into building an Ocean Rowing Boat that should be able to withstand the notorious Irish Sea conditions - building the boat has been a challenge in itself!

There are still many more hours work to complete the boat and then the training will begin in earnest. If you would like to support our attempt there we have a wishlist of outstanding items required to complete the fitting of the boat or any donations are gladly accepted.
