Unread post by davidb »

Thanks Pete for the adsl speed tester:

http://myspeed.visualware.com/uk/index.html

mine at home is download at 830 kb/s

upload at 248 kb/s
Please let me know what you are getting at home, I would like to get it improved at the club, but don't know what is reasonable..

at the club it is currently 150 kb/s down

and 243 up

Not much faster than dial - up for download speed !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this one is worth a go and based in the UK rather than the US, i get more consitent results with this

http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html

also make sure you do not have loads of other stuff going at the same time it can slow down the results

Please let me know your speeds at home.

it might be slow to download at the club,

But at least it has been reliable so far even though it is wet

(I think the rain gauge has packed up )

Down/Upload speeds

I used the link to the 'myspeed' tester and came up with 386kbps upload and 3.08 Mbps download, you are quoting speeds in kbps. Are you sure you have read the output/input correctly?

Yes , I do mean kb and it has been less than 100 !

Arnold, you are very lucky to get that speed.

We had our first broadband drop - outs with Virgin today, but they tell me its all part of the start up process and it should be stabilised after the 13th Jan. They have a good help system, its a bit like MSN or Hello - you do it on line.

I had speeded up a couple of the cameras yesterday, I don't suppose that was causing the problem on the line, but VWS was taking a long time to send the jpegs, so I slowed them back a bit this morning and it has been OK this afternoon again.

Speed Down 8009.81 Kbps ( 7.8 Mbps )
Speed Up 474.77 Kbps ( 0.5 Mbps )

Mines an NTL cable connection. Not bad foe prime time evening, and has been 100% reliable for the last three years.

Speed test

I have used the following for testing down and up speeds

http://www.speedtest.net/

which gives me 1.4Mbs down and 380Kbs up.

I have just migrated from Orange (who provided an absolutley awful service to Zen who seem very good.

A good selection of speed test sites. :D

Currently with BT Broadband - advised maximum line speed of 6.5 Mb

Testing shows this to vary from 3-6.4 Mb download, with typical values of 4-5 Mb. Upload is generally around 0.3-0.4 Mb.

Location High Bentham approx 0.25 mile from exchange.

Cheers
