Dinghy sailing course

Unread post by Alison »

I have had a conversation with British Waterways regarding a possible use of the basin for dinghy training, they have asked for more details but sounded positive. However before we go any further, we need to know if there would be a demand for dinghy courses in the club, aimed perhaps at the junior members? If anyone is interested please let me know
Thanks
michael

If there was someway of inviting non-members to take part it could be a way of recruiting more members from the local area.

I work with someone who lives at Glasson and has kids at the school. The school already do canoeing and she felt there was a need for something for the older ones to do, so it may be supported if we could open it up. However I'm not sure how much extra hassle it may be- I just wanted to see if there is enough interest within the club to be feasible for a trial.

Perhaps we should just start with a friendly informal session with just the families in the club meeting up with the aim of getting the kids on the water on their own? This would at least give an indication of numbers.

One thought was to hire a sailing school to run a course for us. This does not have to be at Glasson- though this would be ideal if we could find one willing to do it.
We'll see what the interest is.

Sailing in Basin

Unread post by bryan sadler »

My Mirror came from a founder member of the club, has a British Waterways number on the side. He said that people sailed in the basin on bad tide days. There is/was a launching ramp at the canal end of Glasson public car park but this was broken by a chap who used it to launch an amphibious armoured vehicle and that, I gather, put an end to basin sailing.

Given the numbers who stand about watching boats go thru the locks, dinghy sailing of any kind n the basin would seem to be a pretty good way of attracting attention. And could help get over those 'bad tide' days!
