Cruise to Arnside

Unread post by Michael »

I noticed this on the Bay Race topic:

" ... Curlew and My Cloud are planning (a) trip to Arnside this October you are welcome to join in, or any other boats interested please get in touch? (with Big John) I think we need 3 days of decent weather and some good wellies for the mud ... I will give you ... (more info) ... when we get some dates and tides sorted .

Aurora has already joined the willing.

I think this would be a 3 day trip with the first stint in the dark. On the first tide we could only get as far as /Heysham. Likewise on the return, leaving Arnside in daylight and we'd only get to No1.
I spent most of my money on Booze, Women and Boats. The rest I wasted.

Hi Mick Yeh on the first stint we could sail up as far as Morecambe to the deep moorings and moor or anchor, I used to have a mooring there for 4 years ,It is reasonably sheltered. hope to see you this W.E. we can start planning. Hi Michael are you hoping to bring Suzi ,I see the trailer looks finished ? cheers john.

Hello John,
I met up with my fisherman/cross bay walks friend today. On enquiring as to the latest situation out there (in the Bay), he informed me of the changes to the river Kent bed up to Arnside.
It would appear that the deep water would lie on a track from Morecambe lake heading for Jenny Browns Point, then hanging a left (westwards) towards Grange over Sands, after which it follows a track close inshore of Holme Island and onwards to Arnside.
Apparently, they have just recovered a tractor that has been submerged for three years which the moving channel revealed, it was considered a danger to shipping ?
It is a very interesting experience and worth a go from a pilotage point of view, plus there's a good pub or two within spitting distance.
Columbus has done it several times, (the yacht that is)!
Good luck, I'll keep my eye open for you from the top of the garden.
Arnold (Columbus)
