"Holly " shows quite a few times with its fourth owner out of six at GSC.
They were: Pete, Dennis, John, me, Derek and now Liam. I bet there are not many cruising boats on trailers that have been used regularly at the Club for as long as this one, with its original engine and trailer, well done Pete and Adrian.

I think it would be about 2010 when Derek changed its name from Avanti to Holly. It was originally called Avanti when it came from the Midlands on the road behind a landrover, I think. We bought it in about 2005 when we stopped going on the summer cruises with Toggenberg.
That engine has run many a mile since it came out of the concrete mixer! John Bacon named it Parrot.

correction: The engine came out of a 28' Colvic countess Pete thinks, owned by a friend of Normans (another David Holmes) who had his engine replaced at Largs marina with a 30hp!

Looking back at my info I bought Avanti from Nationwide boat sales of Chesterfield at the end of 1994, a friend towed it to my house behind his land rover on a 27' boat trailer with a plank on it to support one of the keels, lent to us for a month as part of the deal. We modified a used water carrier trailer to fit Avanti and did the swap over using jacks, concrete blocks/ kerb stones and sand bags. I towed the empty trailer back to Chesterfield behind my Ford Sierra only to find out later that even though the trailer was empty It is the plated weight that mattered not it's actual weight making it illegal for my car to tow it.
The trailer was later galvanised at Heywood for around £250 from memory.
After sailing Avanti for a year or two I realised that with an outboard fitted on the transom reverse was marginal at best and in anything of a chop the motor would spend as much time in the air as in the water. Norman put me in touch with David Holmes who had spent quite a lot on the engine and then decided to replace it with a new 30HP engine.
Adrian and I fitted the engine in a field over winter with snow in the cockpit, we slid the engine up to the boats cockpit on a plank of wood and a ladder
I sold the boat to Dennis Marsden around the year 2000 when I bought Moonshine, he renamed it 'Weasel'.

Where there's a will there's a way. Interesting stuff learning the history of the longstanding boats at the club. They all have a great story to tell.
