The Fleetwood to Knott End ferry (Wyre Estuary Ferry) is currently scheduled to cease operations on 15 April 2026 because Wyre Council received no compliant tenders to continue the service after the current contract with Wyre Marine Services expires today.

Despite a previous agreement securing funding until 2026, the service faces immediate closure as the council could not find a financially viable operator to take over the role. While the ferry has been a vital transport link since 1841, connecting Fleetwood with the Over Wyre communities of Knott End, Pilling, and Preesall, the operator confirmed the final sailing is today, Wednesday, 15 April 2026.
