Just wondering if there is an itinerary for this years cruise and who is going as this will be my first attempt to fall over the edge that must be a bit further than Piel my longest voyage.
Who ever goes treat me gently as nerves are now setting in.You will know me from the two life jackets, 3 gps's,100's of litres of fuel, water bowser and two radio's...have I remembered everything?
All help will be gratefully accepted.
Cheers
John
PS.. Weather permitting.

Hi John
In previous years several of us have moved into the dock a day or two before the start.
Leaving from the dock is easier than loading up and leaving from a mooring and prevents the slip being to busy for the dry sailors but I don't know if we will be able to do that this year due to the Ingleborg Pilot.

Hi John, Pete,
We were at a wedding this w/e so did not had a chance to get up to the club, but want to catch up about the family cruise.
This too will be our first cruise with the club and we are also wondering if we need to organise anything. Do we need to 'book in' to the marinas, for example?
Other question is about timescale. Is it reasonable to assume that we will be back home in 7 or 8 days, weather permitting, or is the intention to be away for longer? Again, reason for asking is work commitments (for Helen).
Anyway, will keep an eye on the forum and take it from there.
Cheers, Rob, Helen and the boys (MISCHIEF)

Hi all,
Bob,as for time away, I will have to be back on the second Friday at the latest as I have to pick up my daughter from the airport on Saturday..I will have to get it right as there is less than a metre of water at my mooring, still worse Wednesday/Thursday so I will have to get it right with the weather, distance to sail etc...or come back on Tuesday with more water over the mooring.
Pete, I did get most things over to the boat on Saturday ...what a wet bumpy journey....
just more fuel and water to take over on Saturday.
It is just the weather that is the main part of the equation being a learner...hi,... but I am sure that being with the fleet of GSC my flares will be easily seen.
So not too sure how many are going but I think it's Piel and then north to the end of my known sailing world...should be good...do I need gifts for the natives?
I do know that my mate Derek the "joiner" (Rolean) is going so I will be accompanied another Westerly Nomad , you will know who is who mine will have a brown wake...
Seriously, have we got a sort of itinerary or do we just take it has it comes, either way is good for me.
Cheers
John

Hi
Usually the summer cruise is loosely for around 2 weeks but as things progress people often advance at there own speeds or to different locations and most decisions are down to a vote, often some of the boats have to return to Glasson early due to either a good weather window or other commitments.
I think the plan is Piel- Ravensglass - Whitehaven - Kirkubright - ?-? - Possibly Ramsey there is nothing written in stone and everything is weather dependant.
Normally a meeting is arranged and some one would ring ahead to to arrange our arrival at the next port if that was required eg Whitehaven & Kirkubright.

Suppose we can start a list of sorts, but there are members that do not use the tinternet and more than likely be quite a few more going.
Glad to here there are a few new comers like myself, bit reassuring for me, but I am a learner.
We have so far....
Derek,....."Rolean"
Pete........"Moonshine"
Rob........."Mischief"
Martyn....."Tanis V"
Jeff........"Pebbles"......I pretty sure.
Norman...."Rice Pudding" " " .
John........"Hina's Moon"
Dave & Dermot "Esmerelda 2"
Jim.........."Strider"
Alan & Sue "Sea Otter"
Andy........"Drumlin"

Hazel and I are hoping to be joining the summer cruise in Strider. We thought we wouldn't be able to because Hazel could have been sent for to go in for her op at any time, but now we know it won't be till well after the cruise. We are planning to launch on Saturday.

I think Drumlin, Freelancer and Florence are also on the Cruise. I hope to be checking tomorrow if we can use the dock prior to departure.
The river was in high flood yesterday - it peaked at around 11 ft ASL (above summer level) at Caton and this morning is down to 7.5ft . Of course it will only be a couple of feet higher down at Glasson but there will be trees, logs and the odd dead sheep coming down so it is worth keeping an eye on your boat on the moorings.

I spoke to Helen at the Dock Office today and all is OK for boats to use the dock on Friday/Sat. The Silver River is expected one one of the tides and obviously must be given priority to enter or leave the Dock.
Alan Round
John in Curlew will also be on the Cruise

A list of boats with contact mobile numbers would be useful to have with us – perhaps it could be sent around by e-mail, as in previous years (Cruising Commodore?). I am coming on it (Freelancer), but cannot leave until Sunday. Hope to meet up with the rest at Whitehaven. Have been into Ravenglass recently, and would recommend anchoring in the area just to the left of and slightly beyond the few moorings that are there, where there is a good expanse of clean, flat sand. I have left on the white table in the Clubhouse foyer, some copies of the detailed Ravenglass chart for members to share around. Follow the dashed lines marking the channel. Chris

Hi Martyn,
If you need to send a Private Message just click on the PM button to the right of that persons Topic Reply or click the persons user name in the Topic Reply and you will be sent to the page to send a PM to that person as anything that is posted on the Forum can be seen by the world...
I would delete the phone number.

Have been in touch with Whitehaven Marina to let them know we are coming early next week. They asked for the boat names and I have given them the provisional list of 14 boats above. They say there will be no problem in accommodating us.
