River Mersey

Unread post by davidb »

From the Liverpool Echo:

MARITIME lovers are in for a treat this week when a giant of the seas enters the River Mersey.

With a gross tonnage of 158,569, the 332m-long BW Bauhinia is the biggest tanker to visit Merseyside since the Nisa in May 1998.

Operated by BW Fleet Singapore, the supertanker will be carrying 82,000 tonnes of crude oil when it docks at 3pm on Friday.

Peel Ports spokesman Eric Leatherbarrow said she would be the biggest vessel ever to be handled in Tranmere at the Shell terminal’s North Stage.

After being brought in by four tugs, her crude cargo will be offloaded before it is processed at the Stanlow Refinery.

For aficionados of big ships, the stats of the BW Bauhinia are a dream.

Built in 2007 in South Korea, she boasts a 58m breadth, a 25.8kw engine and a diesel capacity of 407,92 tons.

That's big, how long to cross her bows in poor visability?
Still only 30 HP or is it really MW?
I spent most of my money on Booze, Women and Boats. The rest I wasted.
