Billy wonders if we could help him? :- My team and I will be conducting a routine monitoring survey around the Heysham nuclear site from 4th August to the 12th August 2026. The Survey is conducted on behalf of the Food Standards Agency, Environment Agency and the Office for Nuclear Regulation to monitor the public’s exposure to radiation and ensure that it is within the approved limits.

We are interviewing members of the public to collect information on any time spent on/in the sea and/or food consumption located from the aquatic survey area between Fleetwood and the Walney Channel, including the tidal stretches of the rivers Leven, Kent, Lune and Wyre (I can email a map). We were wondering if we could speak with you to gather information about your club and the member’s occupancy on water (sailing, boat angling, kayaking, swimming etc.) We are in the area, so I can pop down to the club to have a 10-20 minute chat about your club, or alternatively, I could speak with you over the phone?

All information is treated confidentially in strict accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA 2018). The reports produced from the habits surveys do not contain any personal information that would enable individuals to be identified. We do not require the names of any volunteers or other members of the project.

If you have any questions or comments regarding our work, please feel free to ring me during normal working hours on my direct line at the laboratory.
