My scanner stopped working ( I like to listen to the "extra channels" whilst I'm sailing, so I got one of these £25. It's minute but it works ok between the house and garden, I'll try it longer distance ASAP but I'm sure it will receive ok. If you're thinking of getting one make sure it's this TRI band model so it pickes up 136-174mhz. They have a dual band Which doesn't. Also get the FM radio at no extra.

Re: Scanner
Well, the receiving side of the scanner works OK, which is why I bought it anyway. I picked up a station 269 miles away, a bit of crackling but could make out bits of the conversation, if I was into radio jargon it might have helped. It was the ISS as it passed over last night, if anyone wants to listen in on their side of the conversations its on 145.8 MHz, you won't hear the other side as VHF is basically line of sight and there was nothing only fresh air and a bit of space between me and the ISS travelling at 17,000 MPH and 269 miles high.
I spent most of my money on Booze, Women and Boats. The rest I wasted.
