Hi All,
Meanwhile at the other end of GB.....
Had a marathon trip Monday 26th July. No overnight stop coz forecast for Tuesday 27th was iffy. 5 boats from Towy Boat Club motored to Worms Head for a memorial poem to be read for deceased club member 'Old Bill' then sailed over to Caldey on a nice broad reach. Put 2 reefs in there due to whitecaps then had 2 hours at anchor off Tenby North beach watching the grockles watching us. Sailed, then motor sailed to cross Carmarthen bar 1 hour before high water. We had informed the ranges of our plans beforehand. The RAF at Pembrey were fine. Jolly good show - what! The Qinetic people at Pendine insisted on making an issue of it and sent a RIB out from Tenby to ask our intentions and advising us to stay outside the zone. We informed him of what he should have known already and that, anyway, we knew we had our rights of passage and we were exercising them. (Bit like the Royal Navy and South China Seas !!)

Anyway, all very enjoyable. Visibility was poor for some of the passage so next time could be better.
(Worms Head was spectacular; next to Rhosilli Down which I'd jumped off on a hang glider back in 1979).

It would also be good to get ashore for a beer post Covid worries.

Glad to see the club continuing to prosper and hope the weather is fine for the regatta!

Cheers
Rog

Hi Roger
Glad you made it out on the water, The weather we have had at Glasson has been pretty good really, with light winds but boats heading mainly north seem to have had a rough time of it overall.
You want to pick your battles carefully, the one with the biggest guns usually win, unless you are carrying something bigger on board (being an ex arms dealer)
Cheers, pj

Meanwhile at the other end of Wales we have just picked up a mooring at Beaumaris with stunning views as ever across to Snowdonia.

Many thanks to Mick Bull who got up very early this morning to launch us into a very low tide at 7. 8 m with no no worries.

Back on board after a peaceful walk ashore in Port Dinorwick. The pub was doing a roaring outdoor trade to people watching the sunset across the straits. Big John in My Cloud passed us going down the Swellies bound for Barmouth this afternoon.

After a night at abermenai at anchor we sailed round to Pilots cove on Wednesday and that was certainly a day of two halves.

We had a walk around the perimeter of the Island and by the time we got back, which was only just over an hour, the boat was throwing about like a silly thing and not very far from the cliff. We managed to get on board again without trapping anything, breaking legs or puncturing dinghy tubes. Then we immediately set off for the safe water mark an hour or so too early to get over the bar, so then we had a very uncomfortable wait for the tide.

However we have been very happy that we made the effort because since then we have been holed up, tied up to a pontoon in Victoria dock, waiting for the wide and rain to pass.

We shall probably be making our way back across the Irish sea to Morecambe bay on Tuesday and I have bought three pieces of chain today in case we get to the Piel moorings perhaps on Tuesday night. We have heard that the risers are still a bit buoyant and the chain will help to sink them.
