Lighthouse Bump

Has anyone seen any damage out there? Sounds like a tall story = a ship runs into a lighthouse in the fog!

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

A large gray ship with a flat surface and tower in the middle traveling through the sea

The USS Enterprise, a large warship of the U.S. Navy

A tall red round building with a glassed-in top and a walkway around it. The ocean is visible in the distance.

A Canadian lighthouse

The lighthouse and naval vessel urban legend describes an encounter between a large naval ship and what at first appears to be another vessel, with which the ship is on a collision course. The naval vessel, usually identified as of the United States Navy and generally described as a battleship or aircraft carrier, requests that the other ship change course. The other party (generally identified as Canadian) responds that the naval vessel should change course, whereupon the captain of the naval vessel reiterates the demand, identifying himself and the ship he commands and sometimes making threats. This elicits a response worded as "I'm a lighthouse. Your call" (or similarly), a punchline which has become shorthand for the entire anecdote.

Evidently built in 1947 and must have guided hundreds of boat to Lancaster and Glasson with no GPS, mostly under sail it beggers belief that a modern day ship can hit the very thing that is there to help them..a lighthouse....SpecSavers comes to mind.

Can the master and/or owner of the offending vessel be required to pay for repairs.
I would hate to see it dissapear.

Because of GPS it is surplus to requirements and is being sold as a garden feature.
Looking at the photo it looks like it was hit from the back ?

Dockgate dave tells me a pilotless ship came up and hit it a glancing blow with the bow then the stern swang in and did the rest

Hello everyone
A long shot - Helen has asked me if any member has taken a recent photo of the light prior to the damage on March 5th- she is trying to sort the claim for the repairs.

Don't know what ship hit it, but that door faces the land. I think the stern got swung round in the tide after the bow touched it and clouted it from the SW

Apparently the Germans are more interested in our little light than we are. This is its only entry in Wikipedia https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plover_Scar

it's well worth having a walk out to when the tide is well out - you can get nearly all the way round it and really see just what a thump it got - the railings on the other side are dislodged too, as is one of the iron bands

Its owned and maintained by the Lancaster Port Commission. The request for photos was to assist the claim being put together against the ships insurance- I suspect its going to cost rather a lot to repair -it so Helen is trying to get as much evidence as possible......
Many thanks to those of you that have found photos there are some really nice ones.
Did anyone take any photos at the regatta last year? The more recent the better!
