The first session for the family/junior session happened today. Seven intrepid young members (and one dad) launched three wayfarers and one GP14. Along with Anne Martin Ivan and Nick they set off to have a go at helming and crewing by themselves.
The sun was shining but the light wind died away as the tide took us up towards Lancaster. The safety boat(ably driven by Giles) stepped in and towed the GP (Martin and David) and one wayfarer (Nick, Rebecca and Jenifer Sharples ) back towards the wind before going back for another wayfarer (Anne, Alec Peter and Chris Elleray). Ivan with Jenifer and Rachael Tomkinson managed to find enough wind to get back under sail. The calm conditions were ideal and even enabled some young members to transfer to the rescue boat to have a go in it. A little later than planned the dinghies got safely back to the club. Once the dinghies were recovered everyone enjoyed bacon butties and hot dogs then had a debriefing session. All the juniors had managed to helm and control the sails, and all of them wanted to carry on and try to do it again on their own. Unfortunately the forecast is not looking good for tomorrow but fingers crossed.
Many thanks to all the people who helped to make it such a successful day.
