Local protest by Surfers Against Sewage

Unread post by davidb »

Hi, we were hoping to gain your support for a National Paddle out protest by Surfers Against Sewage - aimed to challenge water companies on their sewage pollution into our blue spaces.

This peaceful & respectful protest is on Saturday 20th May, 11am at Borrans Park in Ambleside.

Facebook event- https://fb.me/e/5GI7UwXLj

If you have not already, we urge you to watch Paul Whitehouse: our troubled rivers on BBC iplayer. The series shines a very bright light.

With the protest we are aiming to inform, challenge and educate. Sign petitions - https://www.sas.org.uk/water-quality/dirty-money/. Make a loud noise so United Utilities hear us! Bring all water crafts, placards, banners & bring your friends and family down to Windermere on the 20th of May and let's save our blue spaces.

Private water companies have been discharging and polluting our blue spaces for too long. This must stop. Only 13% of the Uk 1500 rivers are in a good condition.
We will be focusing on United Utilities here in the North West. As you may know they are the largest private water company in the UK. United Utilities in 21-22 paid the highest dividends to shareholders, over £300 million, while they were the 2nd highest dischargers, over 500 thousand hours. They also spilled at least 12 times in dry conditions. It isn't right.

Thanks
