New location - Morecambe

Unread post by dr.syn »

Dave A and me anchored off Morecambe for a night. It was OK right up on the beach under the clock tower. We had an 8.9m tide , took 2 tides to get there but coming back we managed JUST to get to Sunderland Point in 1 tide (3hrs after HW). We left 1 hr before and punched the tide for 1hr then had to punch the tide down river for 2hrs, I wouldn't try that on any stronger tides and we had a good 15-20kts of wind behind us according to NCI Rossal.
The only worrying bit going was crossing from Heysham lake to the Kent Channel opposite St Patrick's, we had less than a metre but we were early at 3hrs before HW. The rest was "deep" water all the way. Oh and the fact the wind came up that night and blew straight in, if we'd have dragged we could have been neaped. (we had dug the anchors in ready though so we didn't move) It banged a bit going up and drying out in the night, but in other directions it would be fine.
Next years Picnic on the sands ?
