GSC Club Cruise - 1st August onwards
GSC Club Cruise - 1st August onwards
Hi All,
If you fancy a cruise in company to newish destinations then keep the first 2 weeks in August free. The plan is to head to Conwy and then through the Menai Straights to Caernarvon. Thereafter where the wind takes us. Last time we went round the top in excellent weather.
Lots of good experience and craic to be had. It's not a race and people are only too willing to share knowledge and assistance where required.
Talk to me or Pete Johnson if you require more info.
Regards
Roger

Re: GSC Club Cruise - 1st August onwards
Hi note Conway River festival is on from 15th to 22nd August 2015 http://www.conwyriverfestival.org/ they have races for all classes of boats if you enter a race and pay before 15th July you get a free marina berth for that day see website for full details on entry form listed under racing.
Briefly there are 5 race days each race cost £15 but if you enter 5 races before 15th July you get one free, so thats 5 nights berthing for £60.
There are also lots of off the water activities, Big John told me " It's a right good do ".

Challenging, one could call it, partly due to the quality of the equipment:

Now moored under Menai Bridge after a less than successful attempt to raft next to a precious Hallberg Rathsay on the survey vessel. Alan Round was soothing things diplomatically. It's not raining and we may go ashore later - if only to thank the HR owner for his welcome......
Forecast not great but some better weather out there somewhere!

Abermenai Point is in the background of this webcam picture, weather looking good from there, I now regret cutting our "cruise" short, better luck next time:

They are in Caernarfon now, Jeff asked us to look at the webcam, but I don't think it works any more. However, if they go to Porth Dinlaen, there is possibly the best webcam in the world - how do they do that?

As did Alan and Sue Round and Dave and Chris Booth.
A current picture of Port Penrhyn (where we often stayed on previous cruises) we haven't been in for a while and I don't know what the situation is there now.

Re: GSC Club Cruise - 1st August onwards
Hi Pete We were at Port Penryn in 2012 and it was like a graveyard. Dickies used to have a good chandlrey across at Bangor along with a lot of boats for sale. That's reduced to a portacabin at Port Penryn, a shadow of it's former self. We berthed alongside their dock in Bangor in Kerry Girl for £5 a night.

Norman and Einar had a competition to see who could get the top speed on the way back. Norman got 18.5 knotts , then Einar got 18.8. Finally Norman got hold of a big one (a wave that is) and and got 19.2 - so he won. Not bad just on foresail and a bit of engine.
