Club Work party 23 May

Unread post by pj »

Starting around 10am

Dear Member,

The grass that was sown a month ago has taken reasonably well despite the drought so the playing field looks a lot better now. We now need to prepare and sow the river-facing part with the remaining seed, and to do a bit more pointing of the stonework which got damaged.

There is also a little more road mending to do.

The old Flag pole/mast is in a poor state of repair and is difficult to erect and dismantle when necessary, so it needs cutting up and scrapping. A replacement will be purchased.

Doug will organise the labour force on the day.

The Jetty will be the next project to take on and maybe a small team of workers will appear on the 23rd who have the skills required to do the repairs as on ongoing job to avoid huge expense?

We had a look at it on Sunday and a few bits need doing straight away, the rest will need planning for.
The jetty access gate, springs and latch need removing, sandblasting or rust treating, then painting and refitting, a new sign would be beneficial.

Items needed, please let us know if you have any to bring with you on the 23rd:

Quantity of 6" x 2" tanalised or hardwood planking for first section of fendering, two pieces to be 12' or longer.
Some 6" galv nails or big Reisser screws and a power driver
various galv nuts bolts and penny washers for rubber fendering
length of rigging wire and maybe 10 bulldog clamps for repairs to guard wires, two bottlescrews from a big yacht would be good for tensioning them
1m length galv 2" angle for bridge grating support
Aluminium scaffold pole bracket with a plate on the end.

Look forward to seeing you there, brews, and pie and peas lunch will be provided.
Please bring your own tools again.

The perfect day. A bit of graft in the morning, Pie and gravy for lunch and then sail for Piel on the afternoon tide (HW 15:44 8.3m) ?

It's a bank holiday week-end and the forecast is looking good. The more the merrier.......

Next opportunity 6th June for a club outing.

Regards

Roger
