Hi George,

Its demolition was recorded on this forum here, back when we used to have the barge in the canal near the basin:

Unfortunately, the pictures are gone to save forum disc space, but I have them somewhere, I think.

We still have the video, though.

cheers, David

That thing in the opening post is incredibly scary. Almost the superlative definition of 'throwing good money after bad'.

I can't tell, but is there any fendering on the side facing the quay? (I daren't say port side); any roll will surely result in the shiny timber (ply?) superstructure getting wrecked. And please tell me that's not a bath or bed surrounded by glass bricks in the 'forecabin'.

But... I am a bit confused by the perspective- was this taken with a huge zoom lens, or played with? Look at the patio doors shown in the 2nd pic and compare to the 1st pic.

If you do Google street view here, you will see the location:

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@50.16716 ... qOW08A!2e0

There are some serious fenders against the wall, and it spends a lot of the day aground on a mud berth, so I don't think you need to worry about it, and their investment will probably pay with property values down there. They have done a first-rate job, I think its clad in ply with a grp covering on some canvas type material. It will have cost a fortune by our standards.

The perspective is strange because the roof slopes down to the left. No photoshopping at all.

cheers, D

Thanks for the info David.

I was down in Falmouth a few weeks ago on a cycling holiday, but we took the ferry from St Mawes to Falmouth, bypassing Penryn, which is almost a shame; would've been interested to see in the flesh, and really would've liked more time in the area.
