Weather Computer
Weather Computer
If anyone is visiting the club would they kindly reset the computers as they have dropped off line due to a power spike/outage.
You will find the switch in the snug computer room..the switch is on the noticeboard behind a notice about moorings, hold up for 10 secs.
If that fails then you will have to sign for the store room key, ask Frank at the bar so you switch both computers off and on to do a hard reset.
Cheers in anticipation.

no good
Thanks for trying today, john, pity you didn't get an earlier start on the job. I shall try and salvage something next weekend, might just be 2 cameras and the weather station.
No point resetting it any more, its not very well.
Cheers, David

Re: Weather Computer
Is it true the lock on the 'store room' has been changed and John is no longer allowed a key? John was certainly at the Club early yesterday.

Re: Weather Computer
Hi Mike,
yes and no, all the committee now have a key for the new box which is where the only store room key is. When this arrangement was made, John didn't ask for a key because we had planned one of the computers to be elsewhere where he could still work on it.
Now, if someone is there today, and can get access to the computer, all we need is to swap the weatherstation from p3 to p2 computer and service will resume.
Trouble is, I'm in Bristol till Friday and we don't want others fiddling - they could possibly do more harm than good.
I could talk them through the process on the phone.
cheers, David

no jpegs to grab there, so if nobody can swap computers today, I'll put this link up till next weekend, unless anyone has a better idea:

Re: Weather Computer
Quite a few weeks ago I was supposed to ask Wiggy for a key but never saw him, in fact not too sure I would recognize him and had other problems to think about the new Committee Key system had kicked in.
The computers were behaving and another computer I have for the OD is being set up the Key was the last thing on my mind...that is until Saturday..
I thought Frank was the only person who had a key which opens the key box to retrieve the key that I needed for the Store/Computer room..hope you are still with me....
I was waiting for Frank to obtain the key that opens the key box that open the Store/Computer room, it was while waiting that I found out that all committee members had a key to open the Key box that held the key that opened the door to the Store/Computer room...
I then saw two committee members and asked if they could open or supply the key to open the key box that held the key that I needed..unfortunately both members had not got the key to open the key box that held the key that opened the Store/Computer room..
When Frank came on station I got the key to open the key box that held the key for access to the Store /Computer room, by then I was unfortunately running low on time to try and rectify all the problems.
These I could have sorted if I had access that I normally had pre the lock change to the computer equipment.
I understand that the Computer room also holds precious items other than some of my and the clubs computer equipment namely Toilet rolls, paper plates and perhaps the latter must have instigated a lock change and even though forewarned of this important committee decision I felt I was left to chase after a replacement key and as mention earlier had far more important things to do when visiting the club while all the computers were running flawlessly up until Saturday.
I did manage to replace a power supply and re-boot and set up one of the computers which put two cameras back on stream one of which allows members that have boats on the mooring to see if all is well after each tide and also watch launch and recovery which I know is a favorite with the members as are all the cameras including the weather station that David keeps running through thick n thin..
I hope the committee takes note that I was asked by numerous members when the cameras and weather station would be back on line which proves that they are now an important link to GSC by members that do not live local to the club.
That is why I was frustrated on Saturday..I hate changes!

Re: Weather Computer
I recommended John for this year's Hawtin Trophy to two Committee Members. John has and is providing what has become a very important service to members.
The Hawtin Trophy is awarded for services to the club.
Most of you have no idea who I am. I've been a member for over 32 years http://www.naimad.co.uk/jmswarbrick/mic ... rvice.html

Re: Weather Computer
Thank you Michael that is most kind ...but there are tens of members both on the Committee and off that do far more behind the scenes work.
what I do is a labour of love and only improves a few members enjoyment.
Where the likes of the Meal makers, bonfire providers, entertainment, Grumpy Gillie..
and many, many more .....the ones that make it a CLUB not an institution do far more and for more members....not ignoring your good self amongst the many.
But thank you for the thought,
John
