Propellor Thieves?

Unread post by Michael »

Ivan went up to the Club at around 1500 hours today and there was no one around. He had a look round the boats and decided to go home again at around 1515 hours.

As he approached the gate a man jumped over the gate from our grounds and got into a dark blue Ford Focus (registration number something like ?E57OUY) and they drove off hastily – Ivan thought there was at least another man in the car.

He ignored Ivan when Ivan shouted at him. The man was wearing black trousers, black hat and blue jacket.

Ivan went round to the Marina, for pencil and paper, and spoke to two young people there. He told them what had happened and they said Oh Dear, there had been propellors stolen from the Marina.

Hello Mike, I thought I was being paranoid when I removed my prop a couple of months ago but now I'm glad I did. When you see on the news from time to time just what lengths thieves will go to I suppose we have been lucky up to now. Have the police been told about this? Hopefully Ivan has scared them off. Brian

Doughie reckons that the incident should show up on our new security cameras. He's going to look into it.

There should be no problem in getting the car registration and a good view of the person as the cameras were installed for this very reason and fortunately cover this exact point on the park.
I for one would love to see the results of our clubs investment to see if the promised quality is what we paid for. This would be an ideal test for the systems capabilities.

Wonder if this car is on the Police radar!

Is there a system in place where the recording is checked remotely as soon as it is brought to light rather having to check it days after the event which would be counter productive.

And I thought having an almost bare boat would render it of no interest to thieves.

Though I may be down there today in black trousers, blue jacket and black hat (albeit a motorbike helmet)...

As a thought, been there today and noticed that there's a camera on the grain barn's wall facing the approach towards the Club's gate (it's not one of ours, is it?).
I guess in case of, touch wood, something going amiss, the grain people could be asked to share the footage?
