Pint to Pint - a little bit of history

Unread post by Michael »

Saturday is the Viking Invasion!

In days gone by we used to have a dinghy race called the 'Pint to Pint'. At the start gun the helmsmen drank a pint of ale then, Le Mans start style, ran down the slipway, into their boats and raced up to 'Snatch'em's. There they would consume another pint and race back down to the Club again, where they would consume another pint and complete the race.

This race was abandoned when dinghy racers stopped 'drinking and driving' and replaced by two races, one to Snatch'm's and one back. The trophy. a pint tankard, is is the trophy cabinet.

Remember it well, had to drag a few dinghys of the river bank with the rescue boat. they always said it was the unpredictable tide and current not the beer that caused the problems. You should try and get it started again they could drink a pint of orange or as them Southerners do A pint of shandy.
