At Lune Deep buoy Lopud had lost 10 or 15 mins to the leading pack probably due to bad tactics as the other boats had tacked twice whilst we went for a longer single tack and probably missedout on the ebbing tide flooding down Lune Deep. Slippers single handing on Jetwind lost time as he lost his winch handle overboard and then had a Genoa shackle snap. Close hauled again om the leg to Lightning Knoll Lopud regained 2 or 3 places, whilst Triagos and Jetwind had a good battle with the old Glasson Marina boat Dorothy May, Triagos winning that battle and Jetwind losing out by a few seconds.
From Lightning Knoll to Seldom seen it was downwind with about 80% of the boats flying spinnakers or cruising chutes it made for a colourful sight as all the boats (except one!) kept to the buoyed channel. Once round the tip of Waney the sea flattened out to the finish line which was a transit between the end of the jetty and Piel buoy.
Barrow Sailing club had erected a marquee at the back of the Ship Inn (which will hopefully stay there for the rest of the season) from which pie and peas were served before the presentations at 18:30. It was also announced that a provisional date of July 5th had been made to crown the new king and queen (Steve and Sheila) and everyone was welcome for the knighting ceromony.
During the night the wind dopped to 12 or 13 Knots and still from the West. We left the moorings at Piel at about 06:30 high tide being 10:50. Mist flew its spinnaker whilst the other boats went goosewinged most of the way back surfing on the 3 foot waves in the morning sunshine.
