Weather Forecast Web Site
When I was looking for a weather window to bring my boat back from Conwy I found this website which gives not only weather but wave heights and swell for up to six days ahead. Comparing the predictions to the actuality I thought it seemed pretty good. Here is the link for weather off the Fylde coast...

The Port Commission should be able to tell you as presumably Richard is paying them for his berth (I don't think he's still a club member).

Re: Regatta - Prizes v Entry Fees
I'm not a racing man myself Michael, but if I was I think I'd be doing it for the joy of competing and not for the possibility of winning a prize. Just my thoughts.

Re: Family Cruise 27 July onwards
Strider is already there (I'm hoping she still is anyway). She is moored to one of the long pontoons off the town. These aren't connected to the shore. I may join you all in the Marina for a couple of nights if there's room.

Re: MMSI Numbers
My idea hasn't exactly set the world on fire with only Pete responding. Perhaps people don't like the idea of making their MMSI number public; in fact they are all in the public domain and can be found here http://www.itu.int/online/mms/mars/ship_search.sh . I've found the other members' boats on th...

MMSI Numbers
I think it would be beneficial if the cruising members who have DSC radios knew one another's MMSI numbers. This could be useful on club cruises for making group calls etc, also for all calls it saves going through the channel 16 business - you're straight on to the boat you want to contact. I'll st...

Simrad vhf radio for sale
I'm selling a Simrad RD68 vhf radio with DSC and GMDSS. It came fitted as standard to my boat, is in mint condition, and comes with the surface mounting kit for fitting it into a panel, also the owners' manual The only reason I'm selling it is that I want a radio that can take a remote control micro...

Afraid I won't be able to make it Roger. Still a bit to do on the boat, also one of my trailer wheels has seized-up over the winter.

Go to page 4 of the West Scotland & Northern Ireland section, click on "Strangford Narrows, Strangford Harbour and Portaferry", click on "Approach" and play the video of the yacht in the approaches... and this is where we're going for the Family cruise ???

Excellent Website
Apologies in advance if this is old news but I've just stumbled upon an excellent website. It gives information on harbours all round the UK including tides & pilotage notes etc. The home page is at http://www.visitmyharbour.com From here you can click on (say) Wales & NW England, then on Gl...

Re: Solway Harbours
We went through Garlieston on the bus from Whithorn last year. Seen from the bus the place did seem attractive. It was around low water and the harbour appeared to be totally dried-out.

Re: Solway Harbours
At the Cruisers' planning meeting on Nov' 6th it was decided to make Strangford Loch the destination for the family cruise. But I think the (Eastern) Solway was chosen for an earlier cruise. I can't remember the dates but they'll be on the 2012 programme when it comes out, or email Roger.

Solway Harbours
Old and largely abandoned harbours are being reclaimed and brought back into use at Dumfries and at Caresthorn http://www.nith-navigation.co.uk/ If you click on 'Navigation Information', scroll down to the map and click the button to view it in Google earth it's quite interesting. Caresthorn has acc...

Re: International Cert of Competence
Hello Mick You shouldn't need to book time off work for the exams because they can take place on any date that you and your fellow candidates agree with Jack Seed. We aren't running courses, all you need to pass the exams can be found in the RYA's ICC Handbook, supplemented if necessary by a bit of ...

Re: International Cert of Competence
That's correct,if you have Day Skipper theory and practical you can apply for the ICC without taking further examinations, unless you want the CEVNI endorsement for which you still need to take an exam. If you only have Day Skipper theory it will be cheaper to do the whole ICC via the club.

Re: International Cert of Competence
The last examination for the ICC qualification run at GSC was a few years ago, the examiner was Jack Seed who has now retired as a sailing instructor and is a member of our club. I spoke to Jack over the weekend and he is willing to examine another batch of candidates. Intending candidates should fi...

Wanderer Dinghy for Sale
I've only sailed my Wanderer dinghy 3 times in the 5 years that I've owned her. The last time was a few days ago and I've reluctantly come to the conclusion that dinghy sailing is not for me, so I've decided to sell her. Hopefully her next owner will make better use of her and join in the rejuvenate...

Re: Summer Cruise Photos
Sorry we weren't able to join the Family Cruise this year, we were delayed in Scotland due to propeller problems. After we fixed these we decided to salvage what we could of our interrupted holiday by returning via Jura, Islay and the Mull of Kintyre. It looks as though you had a good time with much...

Here is a list of some of the more "out of the mainstream" websites I've enjoyed looking at. Perhaps some of them will be of interest to other members. http://twin-keeler.blogspot.com/ http://intheboatshed.net/ http://www.youtube.com/user/KeepTurningLeft http://www.boatlaunch.co.uk/ http:/...
