Re: GENTLEMAN GILES

Ivan, you are so right. Giles was all those things and more. His loss was so sudden and tragic I couldn't think of words to say. Giles was a man I admired, always helpful, willing to share his knowledge. I'd like his family to know I am thinking of them - as are many, many more.

The Stone Jetty reappeared around middle of 2004. The full story can be found in the Hest Bank Library open, I understand, on Mondays and Thursdays. To the best of my recollection the wharf was built by some folk from Slyne around 1820 as a 'half tide' berth together with a warehouse (now a white pa...

Sailing in Basin

My Mirror came from a founder member of the club, has a British Waterways number on the side. He said that people sailed in the basin on bad tide days. There is/was a launching ramp at the canal end of Glasson public car park but this was broken by a chap who used it to launch an amphibious armoured...

Cars for towing

My trusty SAAB 900 is now too thirsty for my pocket and needs to be replaced by something secondhand but much, much more frugal. Just how frugal/small can a car get and still tow a Mirror/GP14 ? Having not bought a car since 1991 I am a bit out of date. Any ideas? Why haven't I finished painting the...
