I found the following on the ybw forum, advice given to someone contemplating buying a cruising yacht by a forum member signing himself Doug748.

"Boats change your life from the moment you take ownership, like having children. You will be either working on the boat, paying for the boat, worrying about the boat or earning cash to spend on the boat. Sometimes you will be aboard the boat sailing, a small amount of that time you will be enjoying it in favourable weather."

Just about sums up my own experiences over the past thirty years.
