Sandpiper
Sandpiper
We have just completed the first leg of our journey back to Glasson from Portsmouth in our new boat, Sandpiper, an LM27.
I shall try and keep a blog here for the duration when I get the laptop sorted with Internet.
We are currently at Lymington on a buoyed mooring and plan to set sail for Weymouth on Sunday whilst we still have Easterlies.
Cheers, David

Re: Sandpiper
Great, David & Chris enjoy the the sail.
Re: Sandpiper
Good luck Dave
I spent most of my money on Booze, Women and Boats. The rest I wasted.

Have a safe trip and keep us posted. Brian&Audrey
Re: Sandpiper
We are at Weymouth now, had a very calm passage through needles channel. Never seen as many boats in one place as at Lymington. Thanks for your replies, photos when we get weather bound. Cheers David

All the Best,

Re: Sandpiper
Hi Norman, ETA about 1300 , date yet to be specified.
Cheers, David.
Actually, it all depends on the wind, this is definitely not an upwind boat. We don't have a deadline yet.

Re: Sandpiper
Currently at Ardbeg distillery where people are paying £400 for a bottle of whisky.
Re: Sandpiper
We are now getting into good cruising territory - short hops between pretty destinations. Today we reached Dartmouth having set off only 2 1/2 hours earlier from Brixham. We are in a marina berth for the first time this trip because there wasn't a lot of choice of moorings to be found up here without a lot of research and we wanted to get into a good place before the expected strong winds tomorrow.

On the River Dart
Good wifi from the marina has enabled me to make a blog page on the club website:
http://glassonsailing.co.uk/wp/back-to- ... g-harbour/
If any other members would like to make GSC or sailing - relevant posts on this site, please let me know and I will gladly show you how to do it and give you the log - in details.
We are going for a cruise up to Dittisham, further up the beautiful River Dart towards Totnes this afternoon.
cheers, David

Re: Sandpiper
Now on a swinging mooring across the river from Salcombe quay. After an early start, we had a very pleasant passage round Start point and through the many pot markers.
Next stop either Fowey or Newton Ferrers probably tomorrow. Cheers David

Fowey
Salcombe was a delight, a completely different experience when visited by boat rather than by car. A pity we cut short our visit because we feel like we must push on whilst the good weather holds, to get round Lands End.
We are now at Fowey on a swing mooring having passed Plymouth and the Eddystone in bright sunshine yesterday, then close into the magnificent Cornish shoreline .
Landfall is a challenge into these tight little harbours when they are unfamiliar.
Good to hear about lots of productive activity at GSC.
Cheers, David and Chris
The entrance to Fowey is actually hidden by our forestay.

Falmouth
Now in Falmouth Haven Marina mainly for a bit of comfort after a bouncy evening in Fowey.
We actually managed to switch the engine off for a couple of hours, crossing St Austell bay and into Carrick Roads. Made plenty of leeway, but 5 knots in the right direction can't be bad.

Newlyn
.
We made it into harbour amongst all the fishing boats this afternoon having had a fairly lively ride around The Lizard, but otherwise a calm passage. Great fish and chips for tea.
Lands End tomorrow then turn for home.

Quite a bit past the Lizard looking at the map. You have timed the weather well so far, let's hope it keeps this up.

Re: Sandpiper
Actually on passage as I try to type this. St Agnes is 6 miles away on the beam. ETA at Padstow about 21:00
We are motoring quite hard because don't want to be crossing the Doom Bar in the dark.
Lands End was strangely unpleasant over the Carn Base - avoid that like the plague if you ever come this way. Flat calm here now though. Cheers David
