Next Time we are at Glasson

I intend to have a walk on the coastal path and check out the location this picture was taken:
. .
I think this station must have been opposite the mini roundabout where the road branches to go over the stone canal bridge.
from this strange website: https://www.nwemail.co.uk/features/nost ... /#gallery0
Quite a few disused railways in the Lancaster area:

And loads more on this website: https://rogerfarnworth.com/2019/11/27/t ... ck-branch/

It's further along towards the Vic, David - no real sign of it now though, but you'll be able to get the perspective of where that small gable ended building (immediately above the railway carriage in the pic) was (it's not there now), lined up I should think. That property is down by the mini roundabout

Hi Val,
From Roger Farnworth's blog I think this map shows the buildings at Brows farm where the road narrows with that awkward twist.
. .
As has been said, wouldn't it have made a lovely restored railway? Pulled by a steam engine from Lancaster.

Jeff just said that yesterday (about how it would make a lovely restored railway) - I have to say, whilst I don't disagree, I think it makes a nicer walkway / cycle route

Hi Mick,. Which Kate is that?
I don't think there could be a lot more to know than what there is on that website.
.
And I'm always thinking about sailing - we should be in Scotland right now, before the midges get going!
Cheers David

Thanks for the Info guys, there is lots that I don't know! That side by side map is very accurate, what a good link.
When we had the barge mooring on the canal I went into the bushes and the earthworks for the basin branch are still there, I used to think that was the station, but obviously not now we have the map.
I took this a few years ago: http://glassonsailing.co.uk/wp/wp-conte ... 24x587.jpg you can see the barn or shippon outline next to the canal below the word "Church" in the 1888 map.
cheers, David

I'm going to be playing with that side by side link all day! Thanks!

What were doing in the bushes
I spent most of my money on Booze, Women and Boats. The rest I wasted.

Val. ( and others) Here's another link that will keep you busy all week.
https://maps.nls.uk/os/6inch-england-and-wales/
National library of Scotland also has 20" to mile maps (where you can locate the dogs bowl as well as it's kennel) and various other goodies to wet the juices of a cartophile.

Railings
.
Looked at the overgrown site yesterday and the railings are that you can just see on my first picture behind the guard's van are still there in the bushes on top of the retaining wall:

Those railings go all the way along the track line - to Conder Green and beyond

Yes, but those in my photographs are behind the man & child to the right of the guards van where the engine has just separated. D
