Thanks Chris, looking forward to hear how the trip progresses. We were worried about the state of Glasson Basin and how you would manage when we were there on Sunday. cheers, David

Left Pwhelli at 8.45 after refuelling. All sail up 8 knots heading for Dale. Pwelli is worth a visit, very new looking. I've never seen so many new boats in one place. Hardly a scruffy little boat to be seen although ...

We watched England lose to Croatia at Plas Heli which is a large water sport complex close to the marina. It was built three years ago with lottery funding.

Milford Haven

Post by davidb »

Hi Chris, I do hope Colin continues this blog when you leave, its great remembering places we have been to.

If you end up at Milford Haven Marina, there is a handy big Tesco for stocking up.

Try to get a few days in Padstow, its a great place to look round, good fish & chips and Cornish Pasties next to the dock and take the ferry over to Rock.

In Falmouth, go for https://www.falmouthhaven.co.uk/ as it says on their advert: " Perfectly placed in the heart of Falmouth, our marina berths offer easy access to local amenities…" and that includes an amazing hardware shop that sells everything, and the best fish and chips at Harbour Lights Restaurant.

cheers, David

Arrived Dale at 10.05 pm, picked up a mooring. 90 miles today 13 hours, held up by foul tide due to late departure from Pwhelli waiting for fuel berth to open.
Early start 6 am tomorrow for Paidstow.

Hello. Picked up a mooring at St Mary's Isles of Scilly at 5.30 pm. Flat coming over apart from a gentle swell. Bright hot sunshine. More dolphins. 360 miles so far.

We dinghies ashore last night after having Einar's chilli con carne ,the last of several meals he brought. We had a few beers and saw a good live band. We will stay on the mooring at St Mary's until Tuesday then it's off to Newlyn.

We left the Isles of Scilly at 8.40 am this morning headed for Newly (32 miles). We touched the bottom going into Newly. We didn't stay long as the only berth they could offer was unsuitable. We set off for Falmouth and on the way Einar suggested we go to Mylor harbour which is just north of Falmouth , that's where we are heading. We passed Lizard Point at 16.50

Two nights in Mylor. Nice place. Visited the yacht club. Very impressive. Dinghied up the river to the Pandora where we had lunch and met Brian and Judy, two of Einar's friends.

We have moved round the corner to Falmouth this morning (Thursday) to the Pendennis marina. Warm and sunny.

Went via Polperro to Plymouth Sutton Marina on Tuesday. Weather superb, a bit of sailing and on to Brixham today mindful of bad forecast for Sunday. Will look around the Golden Hind tomorrow.

Polperro

Post by davidb »

Polperro was a good idea, how long did you get in there to get off the boat as well to take the picture? We did an overnight at Fowey but didn't get ashore. We just dismissed Polperro as another drying harbour, but the chart shows a possible anchorage as well as the visitor moorings.

Is there a deadline to the end of this trip, or is it wait and see how far you get? cheers, David

Hi David, All,
We spent 2 hours in Polperro over lunchtime. Happy to eat inside a pub because it was too hot outside !
The visitor moorings are village maintained and you pay if you overnight. The fishermen were keen to ask!
We're now in Brixham and hunkered down for 50+ winds tomorrow morning. It's 30+ mph at the moment..
Jane, Karen and I will leave on Sat next, ideally from Gosport, back for the committee meeting on Sunday!
Next stop will be Weymouth on Mon around Portland Bill which could be interesting..
Regards
Ocean Phoenix
