GSC Covid-19 Update (Telehandler Use)

Unread post by Roger »

Update from 28 May 2020:

Since the Committee Meeting on the 21st May there has been some discussion between Committee members on how we might relax the limitations we had previously placed on telehandler use, also some ideas placed on the Club Forum by David Holmes regarding this and earlier within the day a shift in the government’s position on the number of non-household people an individual could meet at any one time ie from one to six.

Our action at this time is to allow some use of the telehandlers whilst managing the risk of cross infection between members and to remain within the Government’s rules. The government requires us to stay at a home if possible, remain alert, to reduce contact with others outside of the family household (now a limit of six per gathering) and for that to be done in an open-air and pubic place (therefore no overnight stays anywhere). For this to be for a limited period. To quarantine yourself at home if you or a member of your household shows symptoms of the virus contamination or if a ‘trace and track adviser’ tells you to. However, it does allow us to travel for daily exercise and to meet family/friends socially for limited periods, whilst maintaining social distancing.
Based upon the above the Committee now feels that there is latitude to move this agenda forward.
.
The Rules;
• To begin with we will only use one machine, the Merlo. We will assess and learn from any difficulties experienced before introducing the JCB.
• That we will identify two named drivers for our list of authorised drivers who are also authorised to lift. These will be the only people allowed to operate the telehandlers until further notice. (The exception to this rule is Stafford who will continue to lead the maintenance in coordination with and assistance from David Holmes (Slippers) .
• That David Holmes and Dave Gill will be the initial drivers to fulfill this role.
• Members wishing to access this service should make direct contact with one of the authorised named drivers (David Holmes and / or Dave Gill as coordinated between themselves to be as available as possible) who will decide if they can accommodate the request.
• When two machines are authorised to be used, the drivers of the day will be allocated to a specific machine and they will be the sole driver of that machine for that day, locking the cab when they are not using it.
• Each driver is be responsible for cleaning and disinfecting the cab and other obvious touch points prior at the beginning of that day/shift, prior to starting to use the machine and at the end of the day/shift. They are also responsible for keeping the cab secure at all times during that day/shift i.e. not allowing other persons to access it.
• if the vehicle requires attention it should be disinfected, disabled, locked and signed as being out of commission. A minimum of 72hrs should lapse before repair work or maintenance is carried out.
• To avoid unnecessary manual activity around the machines, strops for each vehicle will be identified and deemed not interchanged.
• Drivers only to hitch and unhitch trailers.
• Only boat owners and crew to handle ropes etc. If your boat recovery cannot be accomplished without outside assistance other than a vehicle, then do not launch.

Slippers and Gilly have been briefed on the above, cleaning products are sorted for the immediate term, separate waste bins are provided, normal bin emptying by the council will recommence.

New Club House Doors have had the 'old' lock barrels installed so your keys will work.

NB we haven't opened the galley or lounge up for Club members yet. Please stay out !

Patience all and hopefully we don't trigger an outbreak amongst club members or their families.

Many thanks for the offers of assistance, we'll continue to review where we are and amend as necessary.

Regards to all and stay lucky...
