We left glasson at 10 a.m. Thursday and got to Whitehaven at about 8 p.m.after a very pleasant trip with a favourable wind for a change.

Thanks for trying anyway Brian. Ian Atky did our lines for us and helped kesbro as well.

We are making for Rathlin this afternoon and actually have a wind for a change..

Our neighbour is heading for the same place:

Sandpiper at Gigha
Sandpiper at Gigha
Gigha was delightful in the sunshine, not sure what life would be like on the pontoon in today's wind and rain.

Well worth a visit if rounding the Mull of Kintyre., The anchorage is well sheltered.

Thanks John for adding photos, Mine are bigger that the 1000 X 800 size limits for this forum, will try posting links to our web album instead.

We decided to take the northern route out of the sound of Jura through the Crinan canal. the forecast wasn't good enough for us to go round the Mull of kintyre into the Clyde.

The locks are ridiculously heavy to open with just muscle power. Much bigger locks than the one between Glasson basin and the dock.

one of the best bits of our visit to Rathlin Island was the upside down lighthouse at the West end surrounded by the seabird sanctuary.

later in the day we had the pleasure of seeing it again from Seaward as we made our way across the North channel to Scotland.

Drying out

Moored below the locks at Cairnbaan amongst the big boats - they've all been big boats on this trip apart from us.

All the tables are booked in the hotel. There must still be plenty of money going around in some parts.

Lavish Toilets

]They don't make them like this anymore!

But they were certainly needed when you look at the photo below from the early steamboat age. the toilet block can be seen on the left of the picture.

They are still available to the public and serve the Rothsay marina berths for showers etc at night.

Marina pontoons now fill the small basin at the right of the picture in the foreground.
