Thanks to the efforts of Andrew, Phil and Norman, at the close of play yesterday the jetty was in much better condition than it has been for a while. Also thanks to Doug for sourcing and getting the timber delivered.

Rubber Buffer

Unread post by davidb »

So who is going to offer to test it now that Capt Panic has left?

The next problem is to source some rubber fendering at a sensible price. We need about 18 metres of it to do all the posts which don't already have some attached.

Norman suggested that it would be better in white to avoid marking boat hulls.

Here is a possibility, but its nearly £60 a metre! So that would make a mess of £1000:

Perhaps all members could keep an eye open for some in scrapyards, etc. Possibly Walsh & Dearden at Darwen if anyone is going?

RE, Fenders. Suggest we use the normal boat fenders, there are six which I have re-attached vertically and are proud of the black strip venders, so hopefully not making contact with the black fenders, I currently have two black marks on the port hand sponson !!

If members have any fenders that they no longer require or use for, and would like to donate to the club, the size currently on the Jetty next to the slipway or the smaller ones for the other jetty.

Your generosity may save£1000 ??

Good find, John. I also thinks Norman's idea for inflatables is good for the corner and at about 10' and 20' from it.

I think 6 of these would be about £250, don't know about carriage

Not Black

Unread post by davidb »

We discussed it yesterday and it was decided to continue the work on the jetty with the fendering to be renewed on the first two sections after the bridge. It was also decided not to buy any more of the heavy black rubber at this point and to look out for some lighter coloured and more pliable material to replace it all.

White

OK Mick, you go first and we shall see how it goes.....

Derek found compass marine on web and it lead to me finding this but it is a bit too wide:

our wood rails are 100mm wide and I think there are 14 of them, mostly 1.6m long

and more.
Don't put the word marine in the search engine or you'll probably pay more

Thanks guys,

I went today and measured the nearest 2 sections for the same timber as before, bear in mind that the fendering needs to be 100mm wide to cover the face of the uprights, squashy and not black. Also affordable in 1.6m lengths.

cheers, D

any canal boaters out there that can reeve fenders from rope.
Might sound daft but couldn't thick rope be wound tightly around the uprights
