Ocean Phoenix

Hi All, currently at Girvan from Port Patrick last night and Ramsey bay on Thursday night. Off to Troon tomorrow. Weather mixed so far but plenty if sailing. Practised man overboard in a very lumpy sea outside Port Patrick at 6.30 this morning. Not helped by having broken open the HighlandPark. 6D35...

Patrol Boat

Far be it from me to chuck a stone in the pond from afar ....... but.... I was out and about at Llanstephan beach this afternoon and saw this fleet of newish boats. It's the new cockling season and the cockle pickers are now all licensed and god fearing tax payers. They used to use all manner of inf...

No overnight stop coz forecast for Tuesday 27th was iffy. 5 boats from Towy Boat Club motored to Worms Head for a memorial poem to be read for deceased club member 'Old Bill' then sailed over to Caldey on a nice broa...

Re: Fishing boat recovery from Fleetwood dock.

Interesting. I wonder how much the firm charged for it's recovery and dismantling, netting off any scrap value. At least a 10 man team on site for 3 weeks plus equipment hire and transportation.

Could read across to the sunk boat in Glasson Marina ?

Furthest N,S,E + W Trophies

Hi All, As part of this year's virtual Zoom AGM on the 25th October at 13.00, I propose to lavish praise and honour (but no tropies!) on those GSC members who have managed to interpret the various Corona advices to enable some notable forays N, S, E and W. There's also the new 'Ian Atky' Trophy for ...

GSC Covid-19 Update - Track and Trace

Good news everybody ! - sort of The government has shifted it's position. No, I didn't know either. From 22nd September we were required to collect visitor data and from 24th September Glasson Sailing Club has been legally obliged to provide a 'QR' code on display at the club to enable members to ch...

Re: Track and trace

All, This initiative was discussed at the last committee meeting on Monday 14th Sept. It was strongly supported by concerned people and I agreed that a trial was appropriate. I'd seen similar at the Towy Boat Club on a scheduled workday, controlled by the day's organiser and sanitised between signin...

Re: St George's Quay

Hi David, Yes, that's the story I have heard. It subsided as the house was being built. When the quay was built in the 1700s they built the wall in the middle of the river on bedrock and back filled up to the meadow which was probably marshy river bank ish. That produced lots of new land for buildin...

GSC Covid-19 Update

Good-day All, I have asked for volunteers to lead a Covid-19 working group and progress the RYA checklist. Given that none are forthcoming, the Committee will progress the RYA checklist scope as best as they are able in terms of GSC activities. The following output was agreed from a ‘Zoom’ Ad Hoc Co...
